Introductory Statement

CaribbeanTutors.com is the regions first online only institution that aims at creating a united Caribbean through education. Our insitution believes that we can foster an environment of understanding and progrssive thinking through the pursuit of certain goals and aspiration.

One such aspiration is the free exchange of ideas and education that is not limited to boarders. Connecting people in the region will only foster a stronger sense of Caribbean identity, heritage, community and culture. Education should be accessible to all and maintain a high standard that not only develops a students’ knowledge base but promote problem solving and understanding. We want our students to become excited about their education once again and by using mediums that are already of great interest to them only seems logical.

The integration and adoption of technology is olso key for us to be able to not only communicate with the outside world but also to look at ways where technology can be of huge benefit to the region. By exposing people both young and old to technology, we believe that they will begin to see opportunities not only for business and infrastructual development but also begin looking at the Caribbean region from a unique perspective, thus putting pressure on our governing bodies to be more progressive.

Respect for law and order is of huge importance as we can already see that there is a global decline in these regards. Citizens must understand that rights and freedoms are not given but earned and should be held close at heart to ensure that our communities and loved ones enjoy a promising future.

We hope that all those who are joined through our program enjoy what we have done and will treat all those involved with respect. Thank you and may you have success in all your endevours.

Challenge to Educational Records

[See: Challenge to Educational Records Form]

2.8

If a student inquires as to the reason for the marks awarded to him/her in a mock or actual examination, the query must first be brought to the attention of that teacher. If they find the explanation inadequate they can bring the matter to the attention of the administrative staff or student liaison, in the format of a formal letter stating the grounds on which the issue has arisen and provide clear explanation as to why they think they were unjustly marked. Likewise, the teacher must defend their position providing clear explanations.

2.9

All proceeds surrounding a challenge to a students Educational Records are held in closed sessions, neither the teacher nor student are able to influence the outcome of the decision through personal contact. Both parties must concede that the results of these sessions are final and not applicable for appeal. For this reason we stress the need for clear and concise proofs, as there would not be another opportunity to do so.

2.10

If the matter has brought to the attention of the administrative staff that there is a decisive malicious attack on either party, disciplinary action may be taken at the discretion of the presiding bodies.

Filing Complaints/Grievances

[See: Complaints/Grievances Documentation Form]

2.11

All complaints must be submitted to the administrative staff in writing, describing in full detail the basis of your grievance(s). 2.13

All matters that are within our immediate ability to investigate and act there-upon will be met with expedience, delicacy and discretion. All parties involved will be made accountable for both their statements and actions, followed by whatever disciplinary action that is seen fitting for any such actions.

Academic Policies

Faculty & Advisors

3.1

All faculty and advisors must work to ensure that the service and materials provided reflect a standard of high quality that is unmatched by any similar institutions. They must also ensure that the needs of both internal and external customers are met, showing them the respect and due diligence of any professional organization.

3.2

Faculty and staff should demonstrate the qualities that this institution aims to instill in all whom has come into contact with us. “Leading by example” should be the motto of any participating member of staff.

3.3

Remember all are held responsible for their action and should keep in mind that for every action there exists a series of ripples that affect those who may not have had direct experience with us. We are service oriented and rely on the referrals of positive experiences of those who have entrusted us with their educational needs.

Academic Leniency

3.4

Academic leniency is left to the sole discretion of the teacher. All we ask is that faculty and staff pay specific attention as to the decisions made and ensure that they are seen as being fair. In no way, shape or form should unjust favoritism or leniency to any student or group of students be demonstrated.

3.5

If a student feels that he/she have been unfairly treated or victimized they are to report these incidences to the administrative body or the Student Liaison in writing, describing in detail the particulars of their grievance(s).

3.6

The administrative body will penalize any teacher that appears to be too lenient and does not enforce upon their students the need to abide by rules, deadlines, or any other stipulation that may be placed upon them.

3.7

This institutions’ purpose is to ensure the academic success of its students. We will not allow any one individual be it teacher or student to disrupt this organizations goals and promises to its customers.

Standards and Credentials

3.8

Other requirements include proficiency in information technology as well as demonstrating their ability to integrate this into their classes.

All teachers are to be registered with whatever national governing body they are currently active, and to provide us with this information to verify before they are accepted.

3.11

All teachers must make an effort to use materials that is not only relevant to the course work that is needed to be covered but to also find ways to make this information relevant and up-to-date with today’s ever changing environment. This is in keeping with our goals to have produced students who are not only well educated but also well informed.

3.12 [Notice]

It is mandatory that all tutors provide an assessment exam to each student upon entry. This is to gauge where the student may need focused attention to achieve the greatest gains. We aim to show a positive change in the students’ grades, encouraging hard work not grades. This assessment exam will be used in co-operation with frequent tests and quizzes to measure performance.

Plagiarism and Dishonesty

3.13

These issues are detrimental to the effectiveness of our program. Students must be made aware that they are only cheating themselves but are also damaging their future by not always putting their best foot forward. They must understand that even if failure is imminent, it is the demonstration and diligence of honesty and hard work that will in the long run be of the most benefit to them.

3.14

Students who take it upon themselves to present plagiarized work as their own will face penalization at the discretion of their teacher. The teacher is to make the administrative staff aware of this fact so that we may make record of it and be able to deal with it accordingly. Informing the students’ parents/guardians will be necessary if the student is not over the age of eighteen.

3.15

Some room for leniency will be taken into consideration based on the severity of the offense and the student will have to face some sort of disciplinary action. As with most student offenses, repeat offenders will meet more severe disciplinary actions, including expulsion.

These actions include but are not limited to cheating, plagiarism, un-permitted collaboration, forged attendance (when attendance is required), fabrication (e.g., use of invented information or falsification of research or other findings), using advantages not approved by the instructor (e.g., unauthorized review of a copy of an exam ahead of time), knowingly permitting another student to plagiarize or cheat from one's work and submitting the same assignment in different courses without consent of the instructor.

4.2

The following procedure is intended to provide guidance to faculty members in reporting suspected plagiarism and other acts of academic misconduct and ensure a fair and due process. Faculty members should speak with a student suspected of committing an act of academic misconduct immediately and report it to their department Chair without delay. Resolution of cases of academic misconduct will be dealt with as swiftly as possible.

-If the faculty member believes that there is sufficient evidence that an act of academic dishonesty has taken place, intentionally or inadvertently, the faculty member will notify the Administrative staff immediately regarding her/his findings.

-If the administrative body concurs that the incident may be an act of academic dishonesty, they will immediately contact the Student Liaison for review, documentation, and adjudication.

-The faculty member will notify the student of the allegation, informing her/him that the matter is being forwarded to the Student Liaison for review and adjudication.

-The faculty member will forward to the Administration and Student Liaison a statement that includes the student’s name, student contact information (e-mail and telephone), a description of the act of suspected academic dishonesty, all evidence to support the charge, and a sanction recommended by the faculty member.

6.2

Observation and Oral Questioning are held within the confines of our Online Classroom.

These also include in-class presentations/assignments and multiple choise questions.

Homework for the use of practice and solidifying the concepts taught would be regularly given as a way for the tutor to guage which students may need special attention.

Culmanative Projects are necessary especially for certain subjects. These projects are to reflect the span of all materials and concepts taught. A firm understanding of all concepts must be displayed inorder to successfully pass this part.

6.3

CaribbeanTutors.com is not only about grades but focuses more intensely on improvements. Our system aims at measuring the change in a students’ performance from the date of entrance to the final exam. The students’ final grade is not as important as the definitive forward progression that the student will make and not only improve their ability to continue with other courses of study but also in the confidence they have in themselves to do so.

Always be aware of with whom you are in contact with by verifying names or if they are someone you are acquainted. Suspicious persons often use chat rooms or other similar message boards because they maintain some level of anonymity; avoid these as often as possible or at least know the people who are attending.

8.6

Always be cautious of websites that are fraudulent. Make a check or search to find if there has been any history of fraudulent activity relating to the website, for purchases or services. Also, it would be advised that you talk with anyone who may have had personal experience with that website/company, or talk with any authority figure to verify its legitimacy.

Sensitive Information

8.7

Under no circumstance should you divulge any personal or sensitive information, including articles relating to passports, ID cards, birthdays, credit/bank cards/accounts, address/location etc.

Reporting Off-Program Incidents

8.8

If there is a situation that you are unsure of whom to report, you can contact us and we will advise you as to what offices may be able to best suit your needs. Also, if you just need to talk to some one for advice on a situation, we want all our students, faculty and staff to feel free to talk with us.

8.9

Remember to always report any serious situation to your local authorities and to inform your parents/guardians if necessary. Authoritative figures can only take action if a report is made; do not give persons involved in criminal activities power over yourself or those in your community.

Sexual Harassment Policy

[See: Sexual Harassment or Advancement Report]

8.10

We maintain a zero tolerance policy on sexual harassment. This is due to the nature and average age of our students. Any one found to have engaged in such behaviour will be immediately removed from active participation in our school and program, pending investigation. Please note that fraudulent claims will also be faced with a zero tolerance and those persons will be dealt with the same level of seriousness.

à Procedures for claims

8.11

All persons must fill out the Sexual Harassment or Advancement Report. It would be advised that you inform your parent/guardian to file a police report in these incidences and submit it with your report to us. Once this is done we can address the situation with the seriousness that is deserves and allow the authorities to deal with the situation to the full extent of the law.

à Investigation and Resolution

8.12

Once reports have been made through the propper channels we can start to carry out our internal investigations to determine the severity of the incident. We will aslo talk with other students and teachers to verify if there has been suspicious activity that may warrant such a report.

8.13

If the situation is deemed a misunderstanding we will work with both parties to find a satisfactory resolution.

à Sex Offenses

8.14

Education & Definition

It is important that all who participate in our program be educated in what warrants as a sexual offence in their respective country. Contact your local community centers, school, hospitals or public offices to find out this information.

Prevention

It is important to know how you present yourself and what information people may have access to that may prepetuate such perceptions. Also, the fact that people are educated in sexual offenses and have channels to report them to, there would be a greater level of hesitation to enguage in such activities.

Procedures in occurrence

Follow the same steps that were layed out in 8.11 for the Sexual Harassment or Advencement Report. Include a police report and notify your parents/guardians or anyone whom you trust.

à Consensual Relationships Policy

8.15

Consensual relationships are a sensitive subject; hence we do not allow personal relationships between students and faculty/staff. Teachers are encouraged not to engage in relationships outside of a professional one. This is to avoid any situation that may cause conflicts or result in dimished service to our students and staff members.
